Description : ANTIQUE FRANZ SCHMIDT & HAENSCH, SACCRIMETER OR POLARIMETER In April of 1864, Franz Schmitz and Herrman Haensch merged their Scientific Instrument (Schmidt) and Optical and Mechanical (Haensch) businesses to form a company that is today managed by their fifth generation. The early (c.a. 1880-1900) Saccharimeter for sale here was used to measure the concentration of sugar in solution. This instrument appears complete and we have one glass tube that held the solution. The instrument is in as-found condition, it would clean up nicely. There is pretty heavy oxidation on the few iron parts, and as can be seen, the brass is oxidized as well. For the descriminating collector this instrument can be kept as-is, or professionally cleaned and conserved. This is a large instrument measuring over 17 in. high, 29 in. long, and 9 in. wide. The instrument itself weighs almost 28 lbs. This is a remarkable instrument, over 100 years old! Alas, we are not in the museum business, so we are selling this instrument. Our Price: $495.00 !
