The HP 3455A digital voltmeter measures ac voltage with five digit resolution and dc voltage and resistance with 5 or 6 digit resolution.

For maximum accuracy, the 3455A uses an automatic calibration feature that automatically corrects for possible gain and offset errors in the analog circuitry.

HP-IB interface for systems applications is standard.

The 3455A is fully guarded and features greater than 60 dB normal mode rejection at reading rates of up to 24 readings per second on all DC ranges. Ohms reading rates are up to 12 readings/second, and an AC fast mode gives reading rates of up to 13 readings/second at frequencies above 300 Hz. DC measurements can be made with up to 1 µV sensitivity. Ohms measurements are made in a 2-wire or 4-wire mode. The high resolution (6.5 digit) mode gives DC and Ohms measurements with greater than 1 part per million resolution. AC voltage measurements can be made from 30 Hz to 250 kHz with the optional average responding converter.

The TRMS converter (standard) gives AC measurements from 30 Hz to 1 MHz. Complex signals with crest factors of up to 7:1 at full scale can be measured.

The math functions of the 3455A provide unique computational capability. The Scale mode lets the user offset, take ratios, or scale readings to give readouts in physical units. The % Error mode converts readings into percentage change.

The self-test feature is used to aid in troubleshooting as well as to verify operation of the 3455A. The test verifies the proper operation of the DC measuring circuits by comparing their parameters against predetermined limits. If a problem is found, the display is used to assist in finding the problem area by indicating which parameter is in error. Detailed troubleshooting can then be used to isolate the problem.

DC and ohms can be calibrated without removing the 3455A from the bench or system.
