Which scales can the 900-331 test in?
All of the regular Rockwell scales. A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, L, M, P, R, S, V. Accessories are included to test in the more popular scales A, B, C. You would need to invest in the proper size ball penetrator to test in the less used scales, which we have available in our store.
What is the biggest part I can get in this tester?
This tester has a vertical capacity of 6.7" and a throat depth of 6.6" (from the center of the indenter to the face of the neck).
What is the thinnest part I can test in this tester?
This will depend on the hardness of your test part. Refer to our Hardness vs Minimum Thickness Chart .
If your part is too thin for a regular Rockwell hardness tester, you will need a Superficial Rockwell tester. Check out the Phase II model 900-345 for your Superficial testing needs. Also, we have a tester that is a combination of a regular and superficial tester all in one unit, commonly referred to as a "Twin Tester" model 900-375.
How easy is it to operate?
The 900-331 is simple to operate. First you place your part on the proper anvil, located on top of the elevation screw. Next, raise your test part up to the indenter until it touches. Then, watch the long arm on the dial as you raise the part. The long arm will travel through three revolutions while the small arm will advance to the red dot. Stop the long arm at the 12 o'clock or "zero" position with the short arm on the red dot. Move the handle on the side to apply the major load. When the dial stops moving, return the handle back to the start position. Record your hardness reading from the dial. Lower the test part and you are done. In just a few simple steps, you get accurate readings with great repeatability.
