The Chroma 6310A Series is a modular programmable DC electronic load platform designed for the test and evaluation of multi-output AC/DC power supplies, DC/DC converters, chargers, and power electronic components. The system is configured by plugging user-selectable load modules into a mainframe — the 6312A accepts two modules, and the 6314A accepts four — allowing up to eight independent channels in a single chassis when dual-channel modules are installed. Twelve module variants are offered, spanning 20W to 1200W of power dissipation, current ratings from 0.5mA to 240A, and voltage ratings from 0.5mV to 600V.
The 6310A Series is built for applications across research and development, production test, and incoming inspection. The 6310A Series is a modular family built around two mainframes — the 2-slot 6312A and the 4-slot 6314A — and twelve user-installable load modules. Mainframes differ in slot count and physical size: the 6312A accepts two modules and measures 194 × 275 × 550 mm (15 kg), while the 6314A accepts four modules and measures 194 × 439 × 550 mm (21.5 kg). Both mainframes accept the same module set, share the same control architecture, and use the same communication interface cards. Both are 19-inch rack mountable with the A631006 (6312A) or A631007 (6314A) rack mounting kit.
Modules differ along four primary axes — maximum power, voltage range, current range, and operating-mode set. Important: Maximum operating voltage: exceeding 1.1× the rated voltage of any 6310A module will cause permanent damage to the device. For modules rated above 1.02× rated voltage, the instrument will issue a warning.
Important: Load modules require a 6312A (2-slot) or 6314A (4-slot) mainframe for operation. All 6310A series load modules draw power from the mainframe; they are not standalone instruments and cannot be used without a compatible mainframe.
Important: If the operating voltage exceeds 1.1 times of the rated voltage, it would cause permanent damage to the device. For modules with NOTE*3 referenced, a warning will occur when operating voltage exceeds 1.02 times of the rated voltage.
Important: Low voltage operation, under 0.8 volt, is possible at correspondingly reduced current levels.
Important: For the 63123A, minimum rise time specification of 25us (Typical) requires a loading current of at least 0.35A.
Important: The 6310A series load modules are compatible with the original 6310 series mainframes (6312/6314), and remote control commands are compatible between the 6310 and 6310A series.
Recommended pairing: combine the 6310A mainframe with the A631005 Softpanel for 6310A/6330A Series to enable PC-based control of LED Mode, Dynamic Test, Battery Test, and Charger Test workflows via the optional GPIB (A631000) or USB (A631003) interface.
