Ettus Research USRP B206mini-I Software-Defined Radio
The Ettus Research USRP B206mini-i (Part Number: 789155-01) is a compact, bus-powered Software Defined Radio (SDR) unit that can be used for a large number of wireless prototyping and development applications. The B206mini-i is a 1x1 transceiver that will operate over a large range of frequencies (70 MHz to 6 GHz), with up to 56 MHz of instantaneous bandwidth for both transmit and receive operations. It has an Analog Devices AD9364 RFIC as its main component, along with an AMD Spartan-6 XC6SLX150 user-programmable FPGA. Together these components provide a lot of flexibility in developing custom Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms directly on the hardware. The B206mini-i is powered via the USB 3.0 interface with the host computer; this also enables the transfer of high-bandwidth data streams between the device and host computer for demanding applications, all within a very small footprint; options are available in either a self-contained version or a board-only version.
Researchers and engineers use the USRP B206mini-i for wireless protocol development, cognitive radio development, spectrum monitoring and educational purposes. The B206mini-i has a full complement of I/O including SMA connectors for the primary TRX and secondary RX2 RF ports; an external reference input for synchronization with either 10 MHz or PPS signals; a 12-pin GPIO header for custom digital I/O and control of other aspects of the unit; and a dedicated JTAG port for advanced debugging of the FPGA and firmware.
The entire platform is also supported by the open-source USRP Hardware Driver (UHD), which supports a single, uniform API for developing applications using programming languages such as GNU Radio, C++, and Python. The UHD API allows for rapid prototyping and seamless porting of code to other members of the USRP product family.
In addition, the USRP B206mini-i is very attractive for use in industrial automation and test systems because of its capability for integration and its robust set of features in a very small footprint. The capability to time-synchronize multiple units and the onboard programmable logic allow for the creation of multi-channel systems as well as the implementation of real-time, low-latency signal processing.
