National Instruments PXI-5124 Oscilloscope
The National Instruments PXI-5124 (Part Numbers: 778757-01, 778757-02, 778757-03, 778757-04, 191766A-02, 191766C-01, and 191766A-01) is a high-resolution 12-bit digitizer designed for high-speed signal acquisition applications. It offers four onboard memory configurations per channel, including 8 MB (4 MS per channel) for Part Number 778757-01, 32 MB (16 MS per channel) for Part Number 778757-02, 256 MB (128 MS per channel) for Part Number 778757-03, and 512 MB (256 MS per channel) for Part Number 778757-04.
This oscilloscope features two simultaneously sampled input channels, each with a 200 MS/s real-time sampling rate, 12-bit analog resolution, and a 150 MHz analog bandwidth. The Synchronization and Memory Core (SMC) architecture enables high-speed data transfer using the PCI bus and scatter-gather DMA, significantly reducing test times compared to traditional instrument interfaces. The PXI-5124 is designed for applications requiring flexible sampling rates. To achieve rates other than 200 MS/s, it applies decimation to reduce data storage while maintaining signal accuracy. The module supports adjustable sample rates of 200/n MS/s, where n is an integer between 1 and 216 – 1. Since this method does not change the ADC clock frequency, the PXI-5124 generates an appropriate sample clock for external synchronization.
The PXI-5124 supports a warm-up time of 15 minutes and requires external calibration every two years, with calibration constants stored in nonvolatile memory. It operates using NI-SCOPE 2.7 driver software, which provides programming interfaces, documentation, and examples for LabVIEW, LabWindows™/CVI™, Measurement Studio, Microsoft Visual C/C++, and .NET (C# and VB.NET). The module includes multiple front-panel connectors for signal acquisition and synchronization, consisting of two BNC female connectors for analog input (CH 0 and CH 1), one BNC female connector for an external trigger (TRIG), two SMB jack connectors for clock input and output (CLK IN and CLK OUT), and one 9-pin mini-circular DIN connector for digital trigger input/output and probe compensation (AUX I/O).
