Overview
The MAGPIX immunoassay system employs LEDs to excite fluoresced beads in up to 50 wells and detects them using a CCD camera for quantitative analysis. This fluorescent detection system has been compared to ELISA (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay) and western blotting for its ability to perform reproducible, cost-efficient, medium-throughput intra and extracellular protein analysis. The MAGPIX is considered an inexpensive and relatively low-maintenance multiplexing system and its applications include disease testing and organic macromolecule expression. Condition Description
The
Luminex MAGPIX is in great cosmetic condition and was manufactured
in March 2012. There may be minor signs of wear and age to the instruments body, but it has not impacted the functionality. There is a cover plate missing and a replacement quote is provided below.
Testing & Evaluation
New Life Scientific technicians have applied powered
the instrument and noted that the MAGPIX initializes without
error. Unfortunately, the instrument could not be tested for full-functionality, precision, or accuracy because New Life Scientific does not have the expertise nor does the shop stock the reagents needed. The xPONENT software required for controlling the instrument is on the included PC, but requires a software license for operation. The technicians were able to connect the instrument to the software (modified to function), open/close the sample drawer, and power the instrument off; the included software is not licensed and will not perform these operations.
Software & Parts
Please contact the manufacturer for pricing
details for the xPONENT software license by Luminex; Millipore and Bio-Rad have additional programming available that is advertised for this instrument. The lower front panel is missing, likely removed by the previous owner for convenience, that NLS could not replace. The OEM part (FS-0893-01) could not be purchased without setting up an account with the manufacturer, in which, Luminex insisted a field engineer should be sent to replace the panel. The cost estimate for the part, labor, and travel charge was 1165.55 USD that was valid thirty-days from January 2017. For more information, please see the links and table below. Thermo Fisher, Bio-Rad, and Luminex have advertised consumables and accessories for the MAGPIX.
