• General Questions
  • What is Used-Line.com?

Used-line.com is a specialized search engine and classified ad listing site for new and used test & measurement, laboratory, and semiconductor & PCB equipment. Used-Line does not buy, sell or rent equipment. We only publish ads.

  • What is special about the Used-Line.com website?

    • The Used-Line database contains the inventory listings and ads of more than 250 dealers worldwide.
    • The majority of the used equipment available on the web is on Used-Line.
    • Used-Line saves you the time it takes to use general search engines to find the URLs of dealer sites and then to browse all those sites.
    • The Used-Line Spiderbot visits dealer sites each working day.
    • Used-Line T&M Specifications can help you find test equipment that meets your requirements.

  • Who advertises on Used-Line?

Used-Line lists the equipment of over 250 full-service quality dealers. Although many of the dealer websites are in the USA, we have dealers in Canada, Europe, and Asia as well. Many private individuals and small dealers also post listings on Used-Line.

  • How is my privacy protected on Used-Line?

Used-Line does not share your information with anyone. When you send an RFQ (request for quote) email to a dealer on the site, your information is transmitted by email directly to the recipient. However, Used-Line cannot control how the recipient uses your contact information. For more information, see the Used-Line Privacy Policy.

  • Finding Equipment
  • How do I find equipment I want to buy?

There are a number of ways you can find the equipment you need:

    • Search for a specific model number in the Find Category or Model # search box. What is special about this search box is that it auto-completes. It will either suggest categories or models, depending on how you enter your search item. If you enter “osc”, a drop-down list will open up with numerous categories that include the name oscillator or oscilloscope. If you enter “123”, the drop-down will list all the models, including the manufacturer names, that contain the numbers “123” in their names.
    • Browse by category, manufacturer, dealer, most recently posted, or from T&M specifications:

  • What do I do when I find the equipment I want to buy?

You contact the dealer or private person who is selling the equipment.

When you open the ad for the equipment you want to buy, you can fill in the Contact the Seller (RFQ) form to send an email to the seller, or if there are a number of ads that interest you, use the Quote Cart to send the same email to multiple dealers.

For more information, see the FAQ on Working with Sellers.

  • What do I do when I can’t find what I need?

You can use the Used-Line Wanted System to post a Wanted ad or contact Used-Line personnel who will try to help you with your search.

  • How do I post a Wanted Ad?

Choose Post Wanted Ads at the top of any page. Enter the details of the equipment you are looking for. You can list up to 10 Wanted ads at a time. Enter your contact information and click the Submit button.

  • Who will see my Wanted Ads?

    • Dealers who have listed their inventories with Used-Line and who have elected to receive real-time alerts if a match is found between your wanted ad and their inventories, will be notified immediately.
    • Used-Line emails a list of the wanted ads posted during the day to hundreds of Dealers. Dealers will be able to send you a direct reply through the Wanted List System. They cannot view your contact information.

  • Is there a way to view only listings of equipment that is currently in stock?

The In-Stock Icon shows that the item you are viewing is on hand. You can choose to view only items that have an In-Stock icon by going to the Status filter on the left column of the listings page, and choosing In Stock.

  • If an item does not have an In-Stock icon, is it definitely not in stock?

No. There are very reputable dealers who do not use the in-stock icon. Do not hesitate to contact these dealers to determine if they have what you need.

  • Working with Sellers
  • How do I contact sellers?

All of the seller contact information is included with their listings. You can contact a dealer using the provided information, or use the RFQ form to send an email to the dealer.

  • What is an RFQ?

RFQ - Request for Quote - is an email you send to dealers who have listed ads about equipment you are interested in. RFQs are prefilled with the content of the ad, your contact info if you are logged in or if you have saved your contact information, and room for any questions you may have about the listing. You can request quotes from multiple sellers at once using the Quote Cart.

  • What is the Quote Cart?

The Quote Cart is a tool for contacting more than one seller at a time. It is similar to the shopping cart found in many websites, except that it holds items you want to ask about, not items you are ready to purchase. You can then send several RFQs in one click, in printer-friendly format.

  • How do I send an RFQ for one item?

Open the ad and use the Contact the Seller (RFQ) form to send an email to the seller.

  • Can I send the same message to more than one dealer?

If you prefer to contact the sellers of various listings with a single message, use the Quote Cart:

    1. Click the Add to Quote Cart button for each item. This button appears next to each item in search results, category listings, and on the actual ad pages (the pages you view when you open up listings).
    2. After you have finished adding items to your Quote Cart, click Quote Cart on the top menu bar to review. All the items in your Quote Cart can be viewed below your message and contact information. You can remove items before you send your message.
    3. After editing your Quote Cart, click Send. The seller of each item in your Quote Cart will receive an email from you.

  • How can I view the contents of the Quote Cart?

To check and edit the contents of your list, click Quote Cart on the top menu bar.

  • I don’t want to have to fill in my contact information each time I send an RFQ. Can it somehow be saved?

Yes. Save your contact information the first time you send an RFQ and it will be inserted automatically each time you send an RFQ in the future.

To save your contact information, select the Remember me checkbox in the RFQ form or in the RFQ Quote Cart.
